In addition to the Sunday matinéeée and additional Saturday matinéeée is held the second Saturday for each production. In addition to the regular season there are several additional productions; a winter musical, a one night performance, and youth holiday programs. This year the Theatre will also present a "Second Season" with two additional performances, "The Psychic," which was a great success and "Murder at the Howard Johnson's," in the spring.
First night performances are often when a new art exhibit opens in the Art Center gallery, awards and ribbons are given, People's Choice artist is selected by all present including theatre goers, and refreshments are served before the play starts. A great night to get your tickets!
A MESSAGE FROM THE Vice President of Performing Arts, Edwin Martin
The snow birds are returning. Thanks to Mel Rustom, our sponsorship is growing.
Thanks to Jim Wellborn, Tim Stuart and Sharon Vetter we have embarked upon a new series of plays entitled the Interlude Series. That means that we have a 9 play schedule this season with 7 plays and 2 musicals. Very ambitious.
On Saturday, October 19th, due to some special circumstances we had a large contingent of younger audience members. Hopefully, they will return and spread the word about our facility.
Our Play Reading Committee members are a dedicated group of people from various walks of life, with multifaceted backgrounds, who voraciously read plays and submit reviews.
Our actors, in my estimation, deserve high praise not only for the quality performances they produce, but also for the dedication to... a sometimes rigorous rehearsal schedule. Musicals, in particular, involve longer rehearsal times than non-musicals.
Our set construction guys are fantastic. In just a few hours, they can turn an empty stage into a complete room with windows and doors. In two days they can provide the illusion of a two story set.
Another very dedicated group are our box office staff. These ladies do an amazing job of handling both the routine and unusual box office requests. I can't leave out the valuable contribution of our stage managers, tech crews, costume and props manager, house managers, ushers and concession volunteers.
My point here is that our theater is growing. Of course, that is what we want, and with that growth comes more challenges and opportunities. We hope that you will help us meet those challenges and opportunities. Thank you.
